How we book our guest acts

Please read this if you're after a paid gig at the club...

The committee share selection duties. So, we draw up a hit-list of probables and possibles, and augment this by a consensus view of review CDs. If you'd like a booking, then e-mail Mike in the first instance. Please don't send any attachments - it's quite likely to mean your message will be binned unopened. You'll get bonus points if you send plain text. We will follow up links to web pages.

We only have about twenty guests in any given year, and the number we book from review CDs alone is small. We're not trying to put you off sending CDs, just being honest that we get over fifty review CDs per year so unless you're in the top 5% you just won't get that booking.

Many review CDs just don't give a good impression of what the act will be like playing live. We're sceptical of solo acts whose CDs have loads of overdubs or back-up musicians. The best way to show us what you're like live is to play a floor spot or invite us to a local gig: a lot of our guests are booked after one of us seeing and hearing a live floor spot or a gig at another venue.

Do have a look at the acts we book: we are pretty broad-minded, but as with any club, we have some ideas about what fits our membership and what doesn't.
